UK Boating image

Here I will keep a rough log of my paddling in the UK. Some of this is with the university club, any photos from these trips will be on the canoe club gallery, the rest are with friends usually in the North East of England and the Borders.

  • Roy Gorge

This is one of the best sections of white water I have done in the UK, a great technical grade 4, combined with the Upper section makes for a superb day at the right levels.

  • Pattack

Another new river to chalk up this month. A short fun trip with interesting access to the get in. Starting below the scenic falls of Pattack if you have any sense this is a short run grade 3 / 4 in the level I ran it. A nice little blast with a fun little gorge at the end. Check the guide for more detail.

  • Arkaig

Rather short river only about 3km with only 1 rapid of note. The appropriately named 'main event' is a nice grade 4 in most levels. The short length of the run makes it an excellent river to tag on to the beginning or end of a days boating in the Glen Spean area.

  • Spean Gorge

    Spean Gorge

This section varies greatly with level, runnable at any levels it washes out at high flows but is a nice grade 4 when many other rivers are too low to run. The online guide describes it well.

  • Egglseston Burn

My new favorite river in the NE, an awesome run reminded me a lot of Guardian Angel in France for some reason, I guess mostly cause it is a gorge with continuous little rapids. This one isn't in any guidebooks but it is on UK Rivers

  • Tees

Another local river, has a whole variety of sections for different abilities. The various sections are described on the uk rivers guidebook.
