• Irthing

A really nice river north of the A69 near Carlisle. Getting in at an impressive waterfall sets the scene for a scenic and interesting paddle, fairly continuous all the way down.

After a morning on the Allen we drove over to the Irthing. The waterfall was as spectacular as ever but still not enticing me to run it. There was plenty of evidence that the water had been a good couple of feet further up the bank at some stage which would have been fun, but the level wasn't bad and I had fun. A pub lunch finished the day's boating off nicely.

My first ever run on the Irthing, it was really nice. Not too difficult but enough to be interesting. The waterfall at the top is cool too. Although not convinced I ever want to run it.
